ECB’s Sleijpen Says a Repeat of 2022 Inflation Surge Looks Less Likely

European Central Bank policymaker Olaf Sleijpen said on Wednesday that a repeat of the sharp inflation spike seen in 2022 now appears less likely, although the risk cannot be completely ruled out.

Speaking at an event in London hosted by the European Economics & Financial Center (EEFC), Sleijpen noted that inflation pressures have eased compared to the extreme conditions experienced in recent years. However, he warned that policymakers should remain cautious, as unexpected economic or geopolitical developments could still trigger renewed price pressures.

His comments suggest that while the ECB sees progress in bringing inflation under control, it is not yet ready to become fully complacent about inflation risks.
